Welcome to our home
"In November 2013, Blockhouse Hill Bed and Breakfast received a Pineapple Award for going above and beyond what is expected of them to enrich a visitors stay in Nova Scotia."
Blockhouse Hill Bed and Breakfast is located in the heart of the historic, down-town, residential area of Dartmouth, which was founded in 1750. We are but three short blocks (about a five minute walk) from the ferry to Halifax, which is the capital city of our province. When you take this ferry (about a seven minute ride) if you go "upside" (ie - to the second deck) and look to your left you will be looking out into the North Atlantic, and may see a Carnival cruise ship along its pier, or perhaps a huge container ship enroute to its berth to discharge, or perhaps an off-shore oil rig anchored in Halifax Harbour. If you look to your right, you may see the sails of yachts from the various clubs racing. This Halifax Harbour is always alive with activity.
Our home is on a quiet street, with heritage homes on both sides and trees everywhere. We are approximately two hundred yards from Dillman Park and its gazebo, with a view from the harbour-mouth into Bedford Basin, where convoys assemble before steaming out of Halifax Harbour into the Atlantic Ocean. Some guests like to walk from the gazebo down to Geary Street Park for another unique, up-close observation point, and then walk down a few more feet to an old Indian burial ground. Other guests like to walk down to the Dartmouth waterfront and out to the end of the pier to watch the ferry dock and watch the harbour traffic go by. Everything is close.
